South Pike County School District awarded multiple grants
Thursday, the South Pike County School District held their regular monthly meeting.
During the meeting, Superintendent Tanya Wilcher informed the board that Murfreesboro Elementary Principal James Riley reported that they started a program called Read for the Win which is a program that was started for their 5th and 6th graders. Wilcher explained that this was created to encourage more reading and comprehension for their students.
Wilcher also reported to the board that they received two grants as well. One was a USDA Equipment Grant in the amount of $25,000 and the other grant was from Blue Cross and Blue Shield in the amount of $2500.
Wilcher also presented an award to school board member Scott Maroon for being named as an Outstanding School Board Member by ASBA.
