South Pike County School District March Meeting

Tuesday night, the South Pike County School Board voted to accept the resignations of Tom Bonner as bus driver, Charlotte Binkley as 5th and 6th grade Math teacher, and Cody Motley as High School Education along with accepting the retirement letters of Deb Stark as Spanish and ESL Coordinator, Donna Alexander as 5th and 6th Grade Literacy, Carolyn Craven as Special Education Teacher, Sharon Kennedy as 1st Grade Teacher, Jeanie Stone as 4th Grade Literacy Teacher, and Martha May as High School ParaPro. 

Additional motions that were approved by the board were to hire the certified and classified staff for the 2024-2025 school year.

Superintendent Tanya Wilcher presented the final prints of the baseball/softball fields, and she stated that the bid packages will be put out for bids soon.

Murfreesboro High School Principal Davey Jones reported that MHS has completed their first round of mandatory state testing. Jones said that they have students attending the EAST conference this week in Hot Springs and there will be more info after they return. Jones concluded by reporting that students and teachers are preparing for the second round of state testing to come in April. 

Murfreesboro Elementary Principal James Riley explained the Amplify science curriculum that is being used in the elementary school. Riley described it as hands-on labs and high student engagement. He added that it has IXL lessons embedded in each lesson, and they are tied to the Arkansas state standards. Riley said that he was proud of the students and teachers for their work and effort on the ATLAS writing test that was taken last week.
