South Pike County School District receives safety grant

Board Members of the South Pike County School District held their regular monthly meeting this past Friday.

Superintendent Tanya Wilcher discussed the state giving South Pike County School District, for the salary difference $301,556 dollars and for benefits $69,358 dollars. Wilcher stated she met with the PPCs, which consist of 6 members, that made revisions to the salary schedule.  Wilcher stated that teachers with a bachelor’s salary would go up to $50,000, and teachers with a master’s would get a $4,000 raise which would bring their salary up to $55,000 for the upcoming school year. 

There was a 7 to 0 vote for the Certified and Classified Salary Schedule for the 2023-2024 School year. 

Also during the meeting Wilcher reported that South Pike County School District received the safety grant in the amount of $117,000 and she discussed how they are planning to use the funds.

Wilcher took a moment to thank Diamond State Bank for their contribution to the South Pike County School District that will go towards weight room upgrades.

The board also approved a motion to purchase band bleachers in the amount of $35,770 which was in the budget for the bond extension money and to accept a bid in the amount of $42,000 for the gym’s roofing project that will be taken out of the Debt Extension Money.
