Student from Nashville High School completes Arkansas Governor’s School

Luis Maya IL, a senior from Nashville High School, was among 400~ rising high school seniors who completed the 44th Arkansas Governor’s School July 5th-August 1st. Arkansas Tech University in Russellville.

The AGS completer from Nashville High School was Luis Maya II.

Established in 1979, Arkansas Governor’s School serves selected students from around the state during the summer before their senior year in high school. AGS students participate in a curriculum that is based, in part, upon their demonstrated aptitude in one of nine areas of specialization: visual arts, choral music, instrumental music, drama, English language arts, mathematics, natural science, social science or development engineering. Luis Maya was selected in the social science area.

Those nine disciplines constitute what is defined as AGS Area I. Area I is a study of the nature of knowledge, while Area Ill is focused on the personal and social development of students.

“Attending Arkansas Governor’s School was an educationally rich and eye-opening experience. From the instant I stepped on Arkansas Tech University’s campus, I knew I was going to fully utilize the academic environment through the AGS curriculum and classes ranging from geography, psychology, sociology, and political science; listening and networking with the keynote speakers; watching various films of intellectual significance; and making life-long friendships!” says Luis Maya.

Arkansas Governor’s School is made possible through a grant from the Arkansas Department of Education. Arkansas Tech University has hosted AGS since 2012.
