Arrest made following pursuit

A Sunday night police pursuit has led to the arrest of a De Queen man. Nashville Police Chief Amy Marion said the incident began shortly after 6 o’clock Sunday evening when officers attempted to stop a Chevrolet Silverado pickup, due to reckless driving. The driver declined to stop and began leading local officers, the Mineral Springs Police Department, Howard County Sheriff’s Department and the Hempstead County Sheriff’s Department on the pursuit through rural areas of Howard and Hempstead counties.
Marion said the pursuit ended at the Silver Road and Highway 73 intersection, between Saratoga and Columbus. The driver saw police units from Hempstead County, slammed on his brakes and began backing into a pair of Nashville Police patrol units and a patrol unit from the Howard County Sheriff’s Department, causing serious damage to all three vehicles.
The driver of the pickup has been identified as 31 year old Colby Teryl Bates of De Queen. He was then apprehended by a Mineral Springs officer and is being held in the Howard County Jail on three counts of Aggravated Assault, Criminal Mischief, Fleeing and DWI-drugs.
Bates also had an outstanding felony parole warrant and outstanding misdemeanor warrants.
