Superintendent of the Nashville School District discusses LEARNS Act
Monday, the Nashville School Board held their regular monthly meeting.
Superintendent Doug Graham discussed the LEARNS Act and what would be distributed to the district. Graham said the government will fund $490,861 that can be assigned to salaries, $112,898 will go towards benefits, which brings it to a total of $603,759 that would go to the Nashville School District. This would cover getting the teachers that are on contract for 190 days to the $50,000 minimum salary and every other teacher a $2,000 raise. Graham also mentioned that the district is 64% through the budget and the district’s current balance is $6,343,056 and the finances look to be in order. Graham also talked about the State Foundation funding increasing from $7,349 to $7,618 per student for the 2023-2024 school year.
During the meeting, Assistant Superintendent Tate Gordon discussed the district being approved for the safety grant in the amount of $172,725 along with a priority level of how the money can be spent. Gordon stated that he will have the application turned in by Friday. Gordon said he received a quote in the amount of $127,000 which was for camera upgrades for each campus. Gordon said he’s currently getting bids on intercoms for the Nashville Elementary School. Other safety projects that were discussed was the fencing at Nashville Primary, and additional signage. Gordon also mentioned that the 17 CSSO Officers of the district are going through training as well.
Graham provided an update of the Scrapper Hall of Fame. Inductees will be announced April 17th and the Scrapper Hall of Fame Banquet is scheduled for June 10th.
