Throw Your X-Mas Tree in the Water
With another Christmas having come and gone you might find yourself wondering what to do with that evergreen tree that has graced your home this holiday season. Rather than throwing it out to be picked up or burned an option exist that actually allows you to give back to mother nature by creating fish habitat. The Arkansas Game and Fish commission has drop-off locations across the state to allow your Christmas tree a second life as underwater cover. The small spaces and dense cover offered by fresh Christmas trees make excellent nursery habitat for small fish as well as provide a great fishing experience for anglers who can manage to keep their hooks out of them. Naturally you’re asked to remove any decorations such as lights, tinsel, and ornaments before dropping them off. Some of the locations in Southwest Arkansas accepting trees through the end of January include Boi d’Arc, Millwood, and Dierks lake. Check out our website for the full list of lakes participating.
