Traffic stop leads to drug arrest

On April 21st, Trooper Travis Hale requested Howard County deputies to assist him on a traffic stop on Hwy 355. It was reported that once deputies arrived Hale had the driver outside of the vehicle. The driver was identified as 36 year old Devon Goins of Nashville.

As reported, Hale stated that Goins was asleep behind the wheel of the vehicle which was stopped in the road at a stop sign. Deputies reportedly learned that Goins was on parole and had a search waiver on file. According to the affidavit, deputies opened the front passenger door of the vehicle and observed two plastic bags in the driver’s side door handle. One bag contained a white crystal like substance that was believed to be methamphetamine and the other bag contained a green leafy substance that was believed to be marijuana.

Goins was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance.
