Two Brothers Facing Felony Charges After Shooting and Crash in Sevier County

Multiple felony charges have been filed against two local brothers following a violent incident on August 1 in Lockesburg, which resulted in a shooting and a vehicle crash that injured two additional people.

It was reported Deputies with the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched that evening to the 600 block of Provo Road after receiving reports of a gunshot victim. While en route, a second 911 call came in regarding a vehicle accident in the same vicinity.

Investigators determined the situation began with a domestic altercation between brothers Robert and Justin Massingill, which escalated into gunfire. Authorities allege Robert Massingill shot his brother Justin during the confrontation.

After being shot, Justin Massingill reportedly fled the scene in a vehicle with two passengers—an adult woman and a juvenile. The vehicle crashed and caught fire shortly afterward, injuring both passengers.

Robert Massingill was taken into custody that night by the Dierks Police Department and has since been charged with:

  • Second degree battery
  • Possession of firearms by certain persons

He remains in custody at the Sevier County Jail.

Meanwhile, Justin Massingill, the gunshot victim, was arrested after investigators concluded that he left the scene while injured and crashed the vehicle while allegedly intoxicated. He now faces:

  • Two counts of second degree battery
  • One count of leaving the scene of an accident involving personal injury

Justin was released on a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Sevier County Circuit Court on October 2. Robert Massingill remains jailed, awaiting his next court date.

The Arkansas State Police is leading the investigation into the vehicle crash, while the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the broader incident.

The case remains under active investigation.
