Tyson Foods’ Plants Mark Zero Waste to Landfill Milestone

Tyson Foods’ facilities in Nashville and Hope are among six company locations in the United States that have been recognized for diverting at least 95 percent of the plant waste from landfills.   In addition to the pair of southwest Arkansas facilities, other company locations also honored include two in Tennessee, and one each in Georgia and Kentucky.

Tyson Foods’ facilities were recognized for reducing the production of all by-products like animal fats, hides and inedible proteins and reusing or recycling the remaining by-products to support conservation and efficiency. By achieving this zero-waste vision, facilities will reduce or eliminate their dependence on landfills to help save costs.

To achieve these goals, each location identifies methods for handling waste in innovative ways to avoid disposal at landfills. There’s criteria provided for how to dispose of materials such as packaging, compost, liquids and food.
