A guilty plea was received Wednesday from a north Howard County woman who admitted she ‘faked’ a cancer diagnosis and took money from individuals and from a community benefit event for her own non-medical use.
Nancy Myers, 38, white female, Umpire, was charged April 19, 2023, with a class B felony, theft of receiving, after an interview with county criminal investigators.
Last week, she entered her plea and was sentenced. The sentence was 180 days in a regional punishment facility, a fine of $1,000, and five years of probation. According to court documents she has made some restitution. She told the investigators that she had spent about $10,000 of the money on car payments and other personal expenses.
Persons who gave money at the community fund-raiser and who can be located will get restitution. The remainder of the taken money will be given to the Umpire Volunteer Fire Department.
