Viral Facebook Rumor of ICE Detention at Nashville School Deemed False

Rumors circulated on Facebook Thursday night and Friday morning claiming that federal immigration agents had detained a student in Howard County.
According to a concerned resident, a 16-year-old Hispanic student in the Nashville School District had been “taken” by agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement from a high school campus. The individual, who described the student as a co-worker but not a family member, reported dropping him off earlier that day.
The post alleged that she and others searched for the teen at his home, in his room, and at the school before contacting district administrators and local law enforcement agencies. The reporting party claimed they were told no one could disclose the student’s whereabouts but that he was safe.
The claim quickly gained traction, with the original post shared more than 80 times and continuing to generate comments even after it was determined to be false.
In a statement released Friday, the Nashville School District confirmed that no student had been taken into immigration custody from any of its campuses.
Superintendent Doug Graham emphasized that student safety remains the district’s highest priority. He stated that every adult in the district is committed to protecting students in their care and ensuring that all students feel safe, supported, and valued.
