Virginia Man Arrested on Drug Charge Following Pike County Traffic Stop

A Virginia man was arrested earlier this month after a traffic stop in Pike County led to the discovery of suspected controlled substances.

According to the affidavit, Deputy Chris Gates of the Pike County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop at approximately 1:17 a.m. on July 8 after observing a vehicle fail to signal at the intersection of Highways 84 and 70 near the Kirby Dollar General.

The driver was identified as 53-year-old Allen Lingley of Virginia. After making contact with Lingley, Deputy Gates requested permission to search the vehicle, and, according to the affidavit, Lingley gave his consent.

During the search, deputies reportedly found a prescription pill bottle that did not bear Lingley’s name. Inside were several pills, including one Viagra tablet, one amphetamine and dextroamphetamine extended-release Schedule II tablet, and one-half of an amphetamine and dextroamphetamine Schedule II tablet.

According to investigators, Lingley was unable to provide a valid prescription for the amphetamine and dextroamphetamine tablets, and the medication was not stored in a prescription bottle issued in his name.

Lingley was arrested and transported to the Pike County Jail, where he was charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, not methamphetamine or cocaine, in an amount of less than two grams.

The allegations are contained in a criminal affidavit, and the charge remains pending in Pike County Circuit Court.
