January was the 5th consecutive month for Nashville to see a below normal rainfall total. The normal January amount is just under four inches of rain. Last month, the city recorded just over an inch and a half of rainfall. More than half of the month’s total was measured in a single 24 hour period, at 78 hundredths of an inch on January 9th. There was also one day with measurable snowfall. Just under an inch of snow was measured on January 16th.
The last time Nashville experienced an above normal rainfall total for a month was last August. In the five months that have followed, Nashville’s combined rainfall total has been just over 10 and a quarter inches, which is a deficit of 12 inches in the 5 month stretch.
Temperatures in January averaged slightly more than two degrees below normal. A large reason for that is due to the average low temperature in January being six degrees below normal.
