Wildfire Danger Increasing- Burn Bans in place
As of noon on Tuesday, September 17, 21 counties in southwest Arkansas elevated their Wildfire Danger Rating to High with 27 counties still at an elevated Moderate Wildfire Danger. A High Wildfire Danger means, “All fine dead fuels ignite readily and fires start easily from most causes. Unattended brush and camp fires are likely to escape. Fires spread rapidly and short-distance spotting is common. Fires may become serious and their control difficult unless they are attacked successfully while small. Please keep in mind the 20 counties that are currently under a Burn Ban, including much of southwest Arkansas. Burn bans in our area include Hempstead, Howard, Pike and Sevier Counties.
