Williams found not guilty of 2nd degree murder in Howard County Circuit Court

A Howard County jury returned a not guilty verdict Wednesday in a murder case.  22-year-old Khalil Williams of Fulton was charged with second degree murder in the June 2021 death of Willie Lewis.  According to police reports, Lewis was shot during a gathering at a residence in Mineral Springs.  An individual at that gathering was seen pulling a pistol from his waistband and a struggle ensued over the weapon.  During that time, reports said the weapon discharged twice.  One of the bullets struck Lewis.  He was transported by private vehicle to the Nashville hospital and later transferred to Texarkana, where he died two days later.

Williams was identified as the suspect.  The trial began Tuesday and wrapped up Wednesday.  Jurors began deliberations yesterday at 3:15 p.m. and returned with the not guilty verdict at 4:53 p.m.  Jurors could have also found Williams guilty of a Manslaughter charge, but determined he was not guilty of that count as well.
