Work Continues at Dierks City Park
A low bid of just over $136,300 dollars was accepted Monday evening by the Dierks City Council for ball field dirt work at the city park. RBIS of Texarkana submitted the low bid of two received by the city. The project will allow for dirt work at four ball fields. The project is being paid from a 50/50 matching grant of $160,000 dollars received from the state. It may potentially be after the first of the year before any progress is made on the project due to typically wet weather seen during the fall & winter months. The work is being done to repair areas at the park that were decimated by the July 2019 flash flood.
The city of Dierks is expected to consider an ordinance next month that will move the shut off day up five days for water customers Currently, payment is required by the 10th of each month & the shut off day is the 25th. City officials are planning to move that shut off date to the 20th of each month, but will have to approve the action by ordinance.
Due to struggling to find part time police officers at the current pay rate, city council members approved raising the part time police pay rate to 16 dollars 54 cents per hour at Monday’s council meeting.
Mayor Ronnie Cogburn also told council members that the city is applying for a grant through the Natural Resources Conservation Service. If approved, the money would be used to dig out Holly Creek & do some bridge work.
