Year end weather report
Nashville finished 2020 with just over 74 and three quarters inches of rain, which is above normal by 24.77 inches. Last year ranks as the city’s 5th wettest year since records have consistently been kept dating back to the early 1940’s. 1957 continues to be the year with for the largest annual precipitation amount, when just under 89 inches of rain was measured. Last year is the wettest year Nashville has experienced since 2009. 8 months were above normal in rainfall last year. However, 2020 ending on a string of three consecutive months being below normal in precipitation. August, which is typically one of the driest months each year, turned out to be Nashville’s largest monthly total of rainfall in 2020, picking up nearly 11 and a half inches for the month.
There were no triple digit or single digit temperatures reached last year. December 2nd’s low of 18 was the coldest temperature measured last year, while 96 degrees was the official high for the year, recorded on back to back days in August.
Concerning snowfall, Nashville only had two days of measurable snow last year. A trace amount was recorded in January, while December saw three tenths of an inch of snow recorded.
