City resident voices concern about property conditions in Southeast Nashville neighborhood

Property cleanup was discussed at Monday’s Nashville City Council meeting.  Council members adopted a resolution declaring property at 303 North 4th Street to be a nuisance due to the residence being in disrepair and it being a blight on the neighborhood.  At the end of yesterday’s meeting, local resident Jimmie White spoke about a number of issues in her southeast Nashville neighborhood.  White referred to the area multiple times as “the forgotten part of town”.  Among issues raised by White included high grass and weeds that hides stop signs, tree limbs hanging over the street, and a general grown up state of property in the area.

Mayor Billy Ray Jones said Code Enforcement Officer David Riggs has been instructed to send registered letters to property owners found to be out of city compliance.  Yesterday, Riggs said as many as a half dozen letters have already been sent.  Mayor Jones also said the city has to go through the proper legal process when dealing with property clean up issues.
