Nashville Rotary Club introduced to FCCLA

Luis Maya was the guest speaker at the Nashville Rotary Club meeting this week. He is a 10th grader at Nashville High School. Maya is the president of the Nashville High School chapter of FCCLA, the District V FCCLA First Vice-President and he was recently selected to be one of 12 state FCCLA officers. He has also served as Nashville Junior High Student Council, National Honor Society and FBLA. Maya is also the Nashville High School band drum major and plays the clarinet. Maya also mentioned what he enjoys about being a part of FCCLA.

Maya said he submitted an application and delivered a speech based on an imaginary suitcase packed with leadership items in order to be considered for an officer position with the State FCCLA. He was notified earlier this week that he was one of six state FCCLA officers. He will be notified of his title during the State FCCLA Leadership Conference on March 30th in Benton.

Maya stated his vision for FCCLA is to increase membership. encourage students to major in Family and Consumer Sciences and collaborate with other state associations.

Maya plans to attend the National Leadership Conference in San Diego, California in July, the Capital Leadership conference in Washington D.C. in October and the National Fall Conference in Colombus, Ohio in November. After high school, he plans to attend the University of Arkansas and earn an undergraduate degree in Political Science and Legal Studies, then Yale Law School to receive his Juris Degree and practice law in Arkansas.
