Legacy Warriors are 9-0 after Slaying 4A Genoa Dragons 71-51

Legacy Academy Warriors took on a big challenge in boys’ basketball this week hosting Texarkana’s 4A Genoa Central public schools. It was the second time the schools met, having played for the first time last year. In Senior boys’ action the visiting Dragons scored first and led 5-0 two minutes into the game. It proved to be their only lead of the night. The Warriors came on strong and ended the first quarter up 20-12 and outscored Genoa again in the second quarter 19-16. This put the Lockesburg team up by 11 with a score of 39-28 at the half. Genoa had their best period in the third quarter and outscored Legacy 13-10, but the Warriors finished with a convincing fourth quarter putting 22 points on the scoreboard and holding Genoa to 10 points. With a decisive 71-51 win the Warriors remained undefeated with a 9-0 record for the season. 
#22 Ethan Gallagher gave the Warriors 36 of their 71 points. #11 Eli Mitchell gave team eleven points, while #30 Ozzy Toledano provided the Warriors ten points. #34 Layne Schroer contributed nine points, while #14 Joshua Tucker put five on the board. Schroer led the team with an impressive 20 rebounds, followed by 11 from Gallagher, 7 from Mitchell, and 6 from #4 Eli Hamilton. Mitchell and Toledano also broke Genoa’s momentum at key times, taking a charge a piece. For Genoa #3 Timothy Colbert was the high scorer with 17 points. 

The senior boys’ game was preceded by junior high action. The teams were well matched and each scored 13 in the first quarter. The Warriors outscored the Dragons by two in the second period going into halftime up 26-24. Post their locker room pep talk, Legacy’s junior boys doubled up on Genoa with a 14-7 point difference in the third period. The Warriors won the game 48-42. Everette Martz led the team with 29 points! Eli Mitchell gave 10 and Jude Gallagher had 5, followed by 4 from Wyatt Roden. Roden also gave the team 4 rebounds and strong work inside the paint on defense.
All of Legacy’s basketball teams travel to Hot Springs Village to take on CMA this Friday.
