2nd week of Friday Night Lights in the local area
Tonight, the Nashville Scrappers and the Dierks Outlaws will play a couple of old familiar foes when in 9 the match-up with a couple of former conference opponents.
The Nashville Scrappers will travel to De Queen to face off with the Leopards. The Leopards are 0-2 this season under first year head coach Richard Bell.
Scrapper coach Mike Volarvich stated it was nice playing in front of their home crowd last week, but this team is 0-1 on the road and needs to develop a road warrior mentality. Volarvich said the Scrappers need to focus on getting better and they need to cut down on the mental mistakes. He said his team needs to understand what it takes to play championship football.
The Scrappers and the Leopards will kick off at 7:30 pm at Leopards Stadium.
The Dierks Outlaws will travel to Gurdon to take on the Go-Devils. Gurdon is 2-0 but last week’s win was by forfeit over the Foreman Gators. Outlaw coach Paul Ernest said Gurdon won’t be running the same offense that they’ve run in the past. He said they will still run the ball a lot, but he expects the Go-Devils to challenge his secondary.
Coach Ernest said he puts a lot of trust in his quarterback and the Outlaws are expanding their offense a little each week.
Mineral Springs will travel to Smackover this Friday to take on the Buckaroos. The Hornets are 2-0 and put up 42 points against Fouke last week. Head coach Jason Hathcock said the offense is clicking, but they are still working on team chemistry on the offensive line.
Murfreesboro got off to a fast start last week on the road at Bearden. The Rattlers defeated the Bears 48-8. Coach Brad Chesshir said he was excited by his team’s performance last week, but he’s excited to see how the Rattlers respond this week on the road at Little Rock Episcopal.
Dierks, Mineral Springs and Murfreesboro will all be on the road this week. Kickoff is set for 7 pm for all three 7-2A games.
