Rotary President Andi Green announced Wednesday afternoon that she would be hosting an information meeting on Monday, August 31st at 6 pm at Rehab Specialists Therapy and Fitness Center for UA Cossatot’s ‘Adopt a Player’ program for the UA Cossatot Colts.
ARDot District Engineer William Cheatham was the guest speaker and he reported on Issue 1.
Cheatham explained ARDot funding is tied to a flat tax on fuel. He said in 1998 that funding would pay for a 2-inch overlay for 200 miles of roads, however, in 2018 it will only overlay 90 miles.
In 2012, voters approved a half-cent sales. Cheatham said ARDot completed 31 projects. He said if Issue 1 is approved, ARDot has a 10-year ‘Renew Arkansas Highway Program.’ Cheatham said it would provide $1.1 billion dollars for bridge improvements, $3 billion for pavement preservation, $1 billion for interstate maintaince and $1.8 billion for capital improvements, including a portion of the i-49 project from Fort Smith to Y-city.
