SWEPCO – 2nd Wind Farm Now Operational
SWEPCO has announced a 2nd Wind Farm that is now operational and serving its customers. The 2nd of 3 new wind facilities, the Maverick Wind Farm is a 287-megawatt facility that will contribute to the 1,485 megawatt facility project in Oklahoma. In total these facilities will generate enough energy to power 440,000 homes once the 3rd facility comes operational in early 2022. Approximately 268 MW are allocated to serve Arkansans. Malcolm Smoak, SWEPCO president and CEO said, With no fuel cost for wind, these renewable energy facilities lower SWPECO’s overall fuel cost for power generation. The fuel cost savings and federal production tax credits offset the cost of the facilities, resulting in net long-term savings to customers of more than $2 billion over the 30-year expected life of these facilities.
