AGFC Duck Decoy Program
With less than a month until Arkansas’s regular duck season you might find yourself going through old bags of decoys looking for a reason to replace some of the more sorry looking ones. If that’s the case, instead of tossing the old out with the trash, consider letting the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission rehome them and spark some interest in the next generation of waterfowl enthusiasts.
Eric Maynard, assistant chief of education for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, runs the AGFC’s decoy adoption program. Anyone can donate decoys of ay kind, and members of the AGFC’s Education Division use them to help youth and other budding outdoor enthusiasts learn more about waterfowl and waterfowl hunting. Decoys collected are used in painting workshops which often take place at nature centers across the state which encourages people to learn more about hunting and fishing and why it’s important to continue these hunting traditions. Regardless of the state of a decoy the AGFC will take them and fix them up before presenting them to the class.
Anyone interested in donating their old decoys to the AGFC for these educational purposes is encouraged to contact Maynard.
