Leopards defeat Scrappers 5-2
De Queen led the Nashville Scrappers by two runs yesterday in a 7-4A District game played at Wilson Park before the Scrappers tied the contest with a pair of their own runs in the 5th inning. From there, Nashville had a chance for a walk off win in the bottom of the 7th inning. With the bases loaded, the Scrappers missed a game winning hit by inches as the ball landed in the field of a Leopard defender. As the game moved to the top of the 8th frame, De Queen managed to score three times. Nashville would again leave the bases loaded in the bottom of the inning, giving the Leopards a 5 to 2 victory.
The Scrappers managed just four hits on the afternoon, with two of those coming off the bat of Slade Slayton. Scrapper pitcher Ethan Gunter took the loss. He finished with five innings pitched and recorded five strikeouts on the afternoon.
Nashville baseball and softball teams play Hope this afternoon. The baseball game will be at Wilson Park and broadcast on B99.5, while the softball game will be at Hope and air on 105.5 FM.
