Murfreesboro residents asked to be aware of people selling fake jewelry

The Murfreesboro Police Department is urging the public be aware about being approached by subjects wanting to sell items and claiming to be in desperate need of gas money.

Chief Randy Lamb said a recent incident involved a local man who was approached by a male subject in a SUV bearing Oregon license plates who offered to sell a gold necklace for gas money. Lamb said the man was not interested in the necklace purchase but felt compelled to make the purchase since the man had a gun laying in plain sight inside the SUV. Also, Lamb said the necklace turned out to be fake.

Lamb said the victim did not file an official report with the police but did make the MPD aware of the incident.

A similar complaint was fielded by the MPD about three weeks ago where a man in a white Jeep was reportedly trying to sell fake necklaces in town. Another incident was also reported to have happened to tourists in Delight.

Lamb said the person selling the fake necklaces is reported to be traveling with a younger female.
