Hot Springs resident charged on drug charges
On November 1st, Nashville K9 Officer Greg Parker conducted a traffic stop on a maroon Dodge truck for crossing the fog line onto the shoulder of the roadway numerous times.
The driver was identified as 51 year old Michael D Martin of Hot Springs.
Parker stated that Martin acted nervous and had trouble producing his drivers license and proof of insurance. Parker then allowed Martin to get out of the truck to locate his license and insurance, which were under the truck seat.
The on-duty dispatcher advised Officer Parker that Martin had a criminal history with prior drug convictions. Parker used his K9 Apollo to conduct an open-air sniff of the exterior of the truck. Apollo gave a positive alert to Officer Parker of the odor of narcotics coming from the truck.
Mineral Springs Officer Dalton Potter arrived to assist Officer Parker. During the search of the truck, the officers located two glass smoke pipes and one syringe. One pipe had a white residue believed to be the controlled substance methamphetamine.
Martin was placed into custody and transported to the Howard County Detention Facility. The pipe with residue was packaged in a seal condition and submitted to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for chemical analysis.
Martin was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
