Legacy Academy Sweeps Oden with Three Wins

Legacy Academy honored its two senior basketball players Friday night in Lockesburg and picked up three wins for a clean sweep over the Oden Timberwolves. Legacy defeated Oden in senior boy, senior girl, and junior boy play on Thursday night, January 27. Between the junior boys’ game and the beginning of the senior girls’ game the teams, coaches, and fans took time to honor Warrior Ethan Gallagher and Lady Warrior Dori Bartek. Both seniors serve as captains of their respective teams and each are pioneering members of Legacy Academy’s basketball program. Legacy began their sports program with junior boys basketball in 2017-2018. Gallagher was a seventh grader at the time and played on the inaugural team. The school initiated its first girls’ team, the junior Lady Warriors in the 2018-2019 school year. Bartek was on the initial team. The school formed senior high teams in 2019-2020 for the boys and 2020-21 for the girls. 
Bartek and Gallagher were both praised by their teammates, teachers, and coaches for not only their work on the court but for their excellent academics, and leadership among the student body. So far this season, Bartek has scored 357 points, won 109 rebounds, claimed 30 steaks and 30 assists. This puts her with 846 points in varsity girls’ basketball. Gallagher’s recently been recognized by MaxPreps and the Arkansas High School Sports Network for his success scoring. Thus far this season he has scored 912 points, claimed 398 rebounds, led his team with 107 assists, and made 34 blocks. This gives the senior Warrior 2,676 career points, 1122 rebounds, 183 steals, 316 assists, and 85 blocks! Both has been tremendous contributors to their teams and hard working pioneers in building Legacy’s basketball program. Both seniors still have a final home game verses Blevins on February 7th and tournament play to follow. 
In the senior boys’ game the Warriors led the Timberwolves all night, at one time leading by 30. The Warriors led at the half 41-17. The Timberwolves rallied in the third quarter when they got hot from behind the three-point line and took advantage of Legacy’s bench subbing. Ultimately, the Warriors won 77-59. Senior Ethan Gallagher led the team 2ith 38 points, 18 rebounds, 6 steals, 10 deflections, and 5 assists. Eli Mitchell gave the Warriors 21 points in senior high play, 5 boards, and a charge. Ozzy Toledano and Layne Schroer provided Legacy 7 points each. Schroer helped the team by winning 15 rebounds. 
The Lady Warriors defeated the Lady Timberwolves 47-38 in senior girls’ action. The Oden girls outscored the Lockesburg girls in the second period but the home team put more points on the board all of the other three periods of the night. Senior Captain Dori Bartek led her team with 24 points and 13 rebounds. Bartek also had 4 assists. Sophomore Oaklee Lofton offered her team 16 points and 6 rebounds. Mercy Hagler dominated the boards with 19 rebounds to give the Lady Warriors an edge. 
Legacy’s junior boys opened the night up with a handy 52-17 victory over Oden. Everrette Martz led the team with 27 points, including 3 three-pointers. Martz also had 7 rebounds for his team. Eli Mitchell scored 11 points and took 6 rebounds. Scoring was rounded out by James Bartek with 5, Wyatt Rode with 4, Silas Lofton with 3, and Jude Gallagher with 2. Brayson Talley gave the junior Warriors a solid 7 rebounds, as well. 
Legacy Junior teams go on the road this week to Magnolia for the girls and Fort Smith for the boys for the HCAA 1A tournament. Senior teams will be back on the court v. Blevins 2/7 at 530pm at the Warrior gym in Lockesburg.
