Free Fishing Weekend for the state of Arkansas
Starting at noon tomorrow, June 9th through midnight Sunday, June 11th, Arkansas residents and non-Arkansas residents can enjoy Free Fishing weekend. Thanks to a proclamation by Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, anyone may fish in Arkansas without a fishing license or trout permit. The proclamation was read by AGFC Director Austin Booth at the May 18 meeting of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. Booth thanked Gov. Sanders for her continued support of hunters and anglers and their contribution to conservation as well as Arkansas’s economy. This weekend presents an excellent opportunity for people to try fishing for the first time, or maybe try a new form of fishing.
If you’ve been considering a new hobby this is the weekend to try your luck in many of Arkansas’ fish filled waters. Regulations for waters still apply such as daily, slot, and length limits. If you decide that fishing is for you, you can purchase a Resident Fish License for $10.50 and a Trout permit for $10.
In addition to the hatchery derbies, the AGFC also has provided catchable-sized catfish in nearly 50 Family and Community Fishing Program locations and an additional 25 fishing derbies being supported by local communities on June 10.
People interested in fishing at one of the derbies must register in advance. Just visit www.agfc.com.
