Accident in Pike County claimed the lives of two Kirby residents
An accident Wednesday afternoon in Pike County claimed the lives of two Kirby residents.
About 1:45 pm, a 2014 Freightliner was negotiating a left hand turn and traveling downhill when the driver lost control and started spinning in a counterclockwise rotation. The spin caused the truck to cross into the southbound lane and into the path of a 2020 Ford Explorer.
The driver of the Explorer, 31-year-old Ashley Penrod attempted to avoid hitting the truck, however, the Freightliner struck the front of the Explorer on the driver’s side.
Penrod and a passenger, 87-year-old Verna Moore died from their injuries.
State Trooper Tate Ledbetter investigated the accident and reported road conditions were wet and the weather conditions were cloudy.
