Monday, 43-year-old Shane Brown of Texarkana, Arkansas was scheduled to appear in the Pike County Circuit Court before Judge Bryan Chesshir where he asked for a continuance. According to the affidavit, on Friday, February 24 of this year, the Pike County dispatch received a call from Audrey Murphy on Rock House Road. She reported Brown had threatened to kill her.

Pike County Deputies Bret Reid, Chris Gates and Chief Deputy Wayne Epperly responded to the call. When deputies arrived they were unable to locate Brown at that time.

Murphy reported she was able to escape from Brown after she hit him in the head with a fire poker. She said she was able to run out of the residence to her father’s camper and contact the police.

Murphy stated Brown was her cousin and had been living with her for about two months. She said he had recently moved back to his father’s residence, but stopped by Thursday night and started to behave weird.

Murphy said Brown thought other people were in the house and that she had been talking to his ex-friend. She said Brown then started to hit her and pour water and whiskey on her face. Murphy said Brown also hit her with the whiskey bottle several times. She said when she tried to get away, Brown wouldn’t let her go.

Murphy said Brown pinned her down and chocked her until she lost consciousness. She said he also struck her with his knees and a chair. Murphy said Brown heated up a pot of grease on the stove and told her he was going to dump it on her.

Murphy said she tried to call for help, but Brown took her phone and broke it, so she couldn’t call for help.Deputies reported seeing bruising on Murphy’s face, rib cage, chest, back, arms and legs.

Deputies located Brown the afternoon of Friday, February 24 at the original scene and he was taking into custody without incident.

Brown was charged and convicted of domestic battery in the 2nd degree in 2019. His arrest record also shows he has a history of assaults, batteries, and protection order violations.
