Nashville City Council Approves Financial Resolutions in Monthly Meeting
The Nashville City Council convened yesterday for their regular monthly meeting, with members Freddie Horne, Nick Davis, William Turley, Kay Gathright, Charles Pinkston, and Herbert Turley in attendance. Absent were Donna Harwell, Joe Hoen, Vivian Wright, Kathy Combs, and Phil Jones.
The meeting began with Financial Director Kimberly Green presenting a resolution to establish policies and procedures for electronic fund transfers (EFT) for the city. The resolution stipulates that two signatures are required for each transfer. After further discussion, the council voted unanimously to approve the resolution.
In her financial report, Green disclosed that total revenue for September amounted to $770,004.29, with expenditures totaling $749,291.61. This resulted in a positive balance of $20,712.68. However, she noted a decline in city sales tax, which decreased by 2.8 percent compared to September 2023, a difference of $4,065. County sales tax saw a more significant drop of 6.7 percent, amounting to $6,273 less than the previous year. Green addressed previous concerns regarding an 18 percent decrease in county sales tax, explaining that she was legally unable to provide details about the cause.
The council also reviewed a resolution regarding the city millage for 2024, which will be collected in 2025. After discussion, the council approved a motion to maintain the current millage rates at 3.6 mills for both real estate and personal property.
Mayor Larry Dunaway provided an update on the water project, announcing that the city’s plans for Phase 1 have been approved.
Before concluding the meeting, the council scheduled their next meeting for November 25 and set future meetings for December 16. Additionally, budget meetings were confirmed for November 14 and December 10 at 6 p.m.
