Nashville Scrappers and Scrapperettes Shine at Class 4A South Regional Tournament in Monticello
The Nashville Scrappers and Scrapperettes showed their strength at the Class 4A South Regional Tournament held in Monticello from February 26 to March 1, with both teams competing fiercely and earning impressive results.
The action kicked off on Wednesday, February 26, with the Scrapperettes dominating the Monticello Lady Billies in the first round with an 81-43 victory. The team continued their strong performance the following day, securing an 86-54 win over the Arkadelphia Lady Badgers in the semifinals.
In a thrilling championship final against the De Queen Lady Leopards on Friday, March 1, the Scrapperettes found themselves in a back-and-forth battle that went into overtime with the score tied at 52-52. Unfortunately, they came up just short, with a final score of 53-60, earning them second place in the regional tournament. Despite the loss, their determination and teamwork were on full display throughout the tournament, and they are now 24-8 overall.
On the boys’ side, the Scrappers started strong, defeating the Watson Chapel Wildcats 68-59 in their first-round matchup on Thursday, February 27. However, they faced a tough challenge on Friday, falling to the Magnolia Panthers 66-62 in the semifinals. The team bounced back on Saturday, March 1, securing a dominant 68-34 victory over the Arkadelphia Badgers, earning third place in the regionals. With a current record of 17-7, the Scrappers showed resilience and grit throughout the tournament.
Both teams will now head to the state competition in Magnolia on Thursday, March 6. The Scrappers will tip off at 2:30 p.m., followed by the Scrapperettes’ game. Fans can catch the live coverage on B99.5 as the teams aim to continue their postseason success.
