Nashville City Council approves resolution to make grant application

The Nashville City Council has passed a resolution for an application for funding through the Arkansas Community Assistance Grant Program administered by the Arkansas Economic Development Commission. The resolution authorizes the mayor of Nashville to apply for a grant on behalf of the city. Up to $50,000 can be requested, which will aid in a couple of projects to improve the water and sewer systems.

The first project would improve the water distribution system by providing a looped connection for enhanced fire flow protection to UA Cossatot and the surrounding area. Public Works Director Larry Dunaway says this would provide additional water pressure and flow to the First Assembly of God Church for its sprinkler system and additional fire hydrants.

The grant would also rehabilitate the wastewater collection system on South Mill Street, replacing an approximately 700-foot section of gravity sewer line. Dunaway says the line is buried some 15 to 20 feet and causes a bottle neck during heavy rain events.

The resolution passed with an unanimous vote.
