Hempstead County Sheriff warns area residents of new scam

The Hempstead County Sheriff’s Office is alerting area residents to a new scam that is moving through the area now. The Sheriff’s Office says it has received reports of scammers hacking Facebook accounts, messaging people randomly by messenger to try and get people to apply for grant money for a fee of $300. You will be asked to text the phone number of 201-627-0811 and proceed from there. It is completely fake and the sheriff’s department reminds you to never send money or personal information in that regard.
