Accident claims life of Hot Springs resident
A Hot Springs resident died Saturday night in a one vehicle accident at Umpire. State Police identified the the victim as 39 year old Soundra Rivers of Hot Springs. Police reports said Rivers was a passenger in a 2000 Tahoe that was traveling west on Highway 84 and failed to stop at the intersection with U.S. Highway 278 in Umpire. The vehicle traveled across the highway and struck an embankment. Rivers was pronounced dead by Roddy Smith of the Howard County Coroner’s office.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as 30 year old Shane House of New Hope. Another person, identified as 42 year old Michael Hunt of Little Rock, was also a passenger in the vehicle. House and Hunt were both injured in the accident and transported to Howard Memorial Hospital. Authorities say the road was wet at the time of the accident, which was investigated by State Police Corporal Ernesto Echevarria.
