Mineral Springs Shooting

A shooting in Mineral Springs took place on Wednesday, June 30th. The Howard County Sheriff’s department received a 911 call in reference to a black male with a gun at the Mine Creek Apartments in Mineral Springs. The Mineral Springs Police Department responded alongside the Sheriff’s department. Mineral Springs Officer, Nathan Cornish, arrived on scene and exited his vehicle in an attempt to make contact with 20 YO Tahji Beal who was standing outside the apartment complex. Within seconds of Officer Cornish exiting his car a black male started shooting in the direction of Cornish and Beal. At least 4 shots were fired towards them with one round striking Cornish’s patrol vehicle through the front windshield, passing through the driver’s seat headrest, and lodging in the plexiglass of the prisoner transport cage. The shooter fled on foot as well as multiple vehicles fleeing the scene. Officers from Howard County Sheriff’s office, Nashville P.D., and state police responded and worked together to secure the scene and the surrounding area. 4 spent casings were recovered near where the shooter was standing. The sheriff’s office executed a search warrant for the apartment and vehicle of Beal and recovered a handgun inside the apartment. Further investigation led officers to obtain an arrest warrant for the shooter that fled. 26 YO Avante Evans is wanted for Attempted Capital Murder.

As of June 1st 11:44 PM the Howard County Sheriff’s Office Inmate Roster shows that Avante Evans has been arrested and is currently in jail.
