Area elected officials sworn in New Year’s Day
Swearing in ceremonies were held Friday morning for a variety of elected officials in Howard County. Members of the Howard County Quorum Court, along with most city council members from Nashville and Mineral Springs took their oaths of office for the new term that begins with the start of this year.
Following the swearing in ceremony, the Howard County Quorum Court also held a brief meeting to establish the meeting dates and times for the new two year office term. J.P.’s will continue the process of meeting the third Monday of each month, unless that day falls on a holiday. In that case, the meeting will be delayed one day. The court also will continue using the “Robert’s Rules of Order” as the parliamentary procedure for conducting their meetings.
The new year’s day meeting will also serve as the regularly scheduled meeting for this month. J.P.’s reviewed the financial report to begin the year. In response to a question from the court, County Judge Kevin Smith said no request has been made yet, due to the holidays, for an attorney general’s opinion regarding the assessor’s position. Judge Smith was also asked by the court to have representatives of McKinstry Industries at the February quorum court meeting to give a recap on last year’s savings from the solar panel project.
The Howard County Quorum Court begins the year with one new member. D’Ann Rogers attended her first meeting. She replaced Dick Wakefield as the Central District J.P.
