Arkansas Farm Family of the Year – county winners
The County families for the 74th annual Arkansas Farm Family of the year program have been selected. Since 1947 this program has served to recognize outstanding farm families throughout the state. The objectives of the Farm Family of the Year program are to gives recognition and encouragement to farm families doing an outstanding job, to recognize the importance of agriculture in the community and state, and to disseminate information on improved farm practices and management. The following are those selected as winners around Howard County:
Howard – Newton Cheatham family – Mineral Springs
Polk – James and Janet Watkins – Vandervoort
Montgomery – Perry and Paula Sing – Oden
Hempstead – Cody and Ashlee Askew – Hope
Sevier – Will Pickering family – DeQueen
“These families are involved in essential work, not only providing food for my family and yours, but also serving as the ultimate stewards of the land and water resources,” – Rich Hillman – president of Arkansas Farm Bureau. These families will be visited by judges to determine eight district winners – This announcement to come on June 15th. The state Farm Family of the year will be announced in December at the Farm Family of the Year luncheon in North Little Rock.
