Arkansas to Receive $10.16 Million for Digital Equity Initiatives
The Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) has approved and recommended funding for Arkansas, along with other states and U.S. territories, as part of the first round of the State Digital Equity Capacity Grant Program. Arkansas will receive $10,161,429 to implement its Digital Equity Plan, aimed at expanding access to affordable, reliable, high-speed internet for all residents.
This funding is part of the “Internet for All” initiative, a key aspect of President Biden’s “Investing in America” agenda, designed to tackle the digital divide. Many Americans face challenges in using the internet, such as lacking the skills to navigate online resources or access to affordable devices.
The funds will support several initiatives in Arkansas, including:
- Establishing digital skills programs
- Offering reduced-cost devices to individuals who complete digital skills training
- Launching mini-grant programs to support community Wi-Fi access
Arkansas is among the states receiving a portion of the $768 million in the first funding round, which is intended to help empower communities with the tools and skills needed to benefit from meaningful internet access. The initiative is part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which seeks to ensure all Americans can fully participate in the digital economy.
