Arrest Made Involving Thefts

An arrest has been made in a series of thefts in southwest Arkansas. Howard County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 28 year old Cory Wayne Deer of Dierks last week in connection with multiple thefts in Howard county.

Authorities say the initial theft was reported November 27th at Dierks where several tools were stolen from a shop building. Police say the items were valued at 900 dollars.

The next night, Sheriff’s Deputy Jake Eudy became involved in a vehicle pursuit that ended with the vehicle wrecking and the driver fleeing. Deputies said a cell phone was discovered inside the vehicle. After obtaining a search warrant, police learned the phone belonged to Deer and authorities said the phone contained several photos taken from inside the shop building in Dierks the previous night.

Deer was taken into custody Wednesday and when questioned by Investigator Joey Davis, deputies said Deer confessed to the theft. He is also charged with several other break-ins and thefts that have occurred at various locations. Deer is charged with five counts of Breaking or Entering and five counts of Theft of Property.

In addition to the Howard County crimes, deputies say Deer also confessed to a theft in Little River County and through the investigation, Howard County Deputies also recovered property stolen from Pike and Sevier counties
