Busy weekend in local sports; Scrapperettes advance to state finals in softball

Two southwest Arkansas teams will compete for a state softball championship later this week.  Over the weekend at the Nashville City Park, the Nashville Scrapperettes defeated Stuttgart, 10 to nothing in a semifinal game.  Pitcher Maci McJunkins threw a no hitter to help secure the victory.  In Saturday’s other game, Valley View defeated Harrison, 11 to 3.

Nashville and Valley View will play in the 4A state championship game Friday afternoon, at four o’clock.  The tournament is being held in Benton.

At the 3A tournament, Ashdown defeated Hackett, 5 to nothing.  Ashdown will face Atkins in the state finals Saturday afternoon, at one p.m.

The finals in 4A baseball are also set after Saturday’s play at Wilson Park in Nashville.  Valley View defeated Shiloh Christian 9 to 1 and Harrison beat Huntsville, 17 to 11.  Valley View and Harrison will play Friday night at 7 o’clock in the 4A state baseball title contest.

In the 3A baseball tournament, Ashdown will battle the Harding Academy Wildcats at 10 am Saturday morning.

In other sports notes from the weekend, the Scrapper Soccer team saw their season end Saturday at the state tournament, losing to Clarksville, 4 to nothing.

A Nashville Scrapper Trap team finished third in the state over the weekend.  The group, consisted of Wren Washburn, Jace Knipper, Gabe Hagler, Alex Trombley, and Wade Wescott. Another team placed 13th at the state meet. That squad included Maddox Arnold, Tristan Ewing, Casen Hunter, Aiden Evans, and Andrew Harrison. A total of 112 squads competed.
