Legacy Sweeps Horatio in Boys’ Basketball; Warriors improve to 13-1 for the season

It was an all Sevier County match-up for two games of boys’ basketball tonight when Lockesburg’s Legacy Academy traveled to Horatio. The Lions hosted Legacy’s Warriors for a junior boys’ and senior boys’ game on Tuesday night. The 1A private school secured the win in both competitions. 

In Senior boys’ play, Horatio outscored the Warriors for the only time in the first quarter besting them 9-6. The Warriors came on strong the second period with 23 points to the Lions’ 11. Legacy’s #22 Ethan Gallagher and #11 Eli Mitchell both gave the team momentum with three-pointers in the second period. The Lockesburg team maintained control of the court for the remainder of the game securing a 59-44 win over their neighbors in the south of the county. Gallagher was the high scorer for the night with 25 points for the Warriors, 13 rebounds, and 5 assists. Freshman, Eli Mitchell gave the Warriors 12 points, followed by Layne Schroer with 8 points and 5 rebounds. Eli Hamilton provided the Legacy squad 6 points, while Joshua Tucker and Manolo Vazquez each put 4 points on the board. Vazquez also had 4 assists for the night. Horatio’s big man, #35 Trey Mason has 16 points for the Lions, followed by 15 from #23 Izzy Tinajero, and 11 from #20 Daniel Gideon. The Warriors advance their record to 13-1 with the victory and host Mt. Ida at home Friday night in Lockesburg.

Legacy dominated the junior boys’ game from the starting whistle, outscoring Horatio 16-2 in the first period and leading 40-6 at the half. Although subbing the full bench throughout the second half, Legacy maintained its lead and won the game 57-25. #23 Freshman Everrette Martz grabbed a double double with 28 points and 10 rebounds for the Lockesburg team, including 2 of those buckets from outside the perimeter. Eli Mitchell gave Legacy 9 points and five rebounds, followed by 8 points from Manolo Vazquez, 4 from Wyatt Roden, 3 each from Brayson Talley and Silas Lofton, and 2 from James Bartek. Horatio’s Kolton Dockins had 8 points, while Juwayne Johnson, and Hazin Hicks followed with 7 and 6 respectively. 

Legacy teams play again Friday night, hosting Mt Ida in Lockesburg, while Horatio is back on the court Tuesday night (12/13) at Caddo Hills.
