Center Point Native and Harvard University Graduate hosting Poetry Night
Published poets are coming to The Community Center, Center Point, Howard County, Arkansas, on May 22nd, 2023, from as far away as Florida and Arizona, to help local poetry lovers and educators to revive a healthy family and community practice, “Poetry Time.” The Event is at 7:00 P.M., Monday night, May 22nd, 210 North Center Point Street, Center Point, AR 71852, and commemorates the anniversary of the death of one of America’s most beloved poets, Langston Hughes, May 22,
1967. Featured poets include Professor Mary Grantham-Rogers, Flagler College, Saint Augustine, Florida, retired Environmentalist Arcelious Stephens of Phoenix, Arizona, and Center Point native and Harvard University Graduate Professor William Maxwell. There will be a fifteen-minute open-microphone for local poets to read one of their own poems or a favorite by Langston Hughes. The authors’ books will be available and the event is professionally catered as a major Book-Signing event. There is no admission fee.
This event is sponsored by local citizens, churches, civic groups and the American Creed Academy, Inc.
Contributions toward the catered refreshments have already started to come in from The Church of God, Tollette, and the Central Baptist Church of Mineral Springs. More have been promised.
