City of Dierks seeking grants for city improvements

The city of Dierks is attempting to obtain a pair of grants. One of the grants would be almost $4.7 million dollars that would be used to provide widespread replacement and repairs on the town’s sewer system. Funding would come from the Arkansas Natural Resources Commission.  During Monday’s city council meeting, aldermen voted to allow Mayor Ronnie Cogburn to sign an application for the grant funding.

The other grant money is coming from parks and tourism and would allow the city to construct a fun park.  Engineers say the money could be used in a variety of ways, including construction of a playground, pavilion, sidewalks or other recreational benefits.  The city is seeking a $100,0000 dollar grant from the state.
