Comment period ends Friday on future of Albert Pike Recreation Area
Ouachita National Forest officials have extended the public comment period through tomorrow regarding the future of the Albert Pike Recreation Area.
The 30-day extension has been designed to enable the public to review the Ouachita National Forest’s proposed long-term management and use of the recreation area.
Forestry officials are proposing to improve day use opportunities which includes general maintenance, adding more parking, providing alternative bathroom facilities, increasing signage and improving the swim beach. Overnight use below the 100-year flood elevation would not be permitted anywhere in the Albert Pike Recreation Area.
Comments may be submitted by email, U.S. Mail, delivered in person to the Forestry office at Mt. Ida, or faxed to 870-867-3338.
The campground area has been closed since the June 2010 flood that claimed the lives of 20 people.
