Contested municipal races in Lockesburg and Horatio

Submitted by Patrick Massey of KDQN.net

The municipal filing period came to an end earlier this month and residents of three of Sevier County’s incorporated cities will have elections to decide.
That includes a race for the position of Horatio mayor between incumbent Borden Neel and challenger Randy Barnett.

In Lockesburg, incumbent Mayor Danny Ruth is facing a challenge from Randy Pickett for the mayor’s office. Five candidates are running unopposed for seats on the Lockesburg City Council: Mark Schroer, Levi Browning, Elizabeth Claudine Thompkins, Joseph Stephens and William Roberts.

Ben Lomond Mayor Ronald Smith and five city council members will run opposed. The council members are Georger Laneir, William Hatridge, Debbie Jaquess, Katherine McKellar and Scott Perason. Glenda Tinkes will run unopposed for Ben Lomond City Clerk/Treasurer.

This year’s General Election will be held on Nov. 8. Voters are reminded to ensure their voter registration is up-to-date, including any address changes that need to be made. In addition, anyone interested in becoming an election worker this fall – or anyone with any questions regarding this year’s elections – is asked to call the Sevier County Clerk’s office at (870) 642-2852.
