Counterfeit bill lands Mineral Springs man in jail

On December 12th 2022, Mineral Springs Chief of Police Francisco Mercado was contacted by the Dollar General store manager in reference to a counterfeit $100 bill they received. According to the affidavit, Chief Mercado went to Dollar General and contacted the manager. It was reported that the manager told Mercado that on December 10th 2022, 26 year old Curtis Smith Jr of Mineral Springs paid for some items with a counterfeit $100 bill.

As reported Mercado stated he reviewed the surveillance video and saw a white male that wouldn’t show his face and kept his head down the entire time he was at the register. Mercado reported that he then saw the suspect pull out the bill and gave it to the cashier. Mercado made contact with the cashier that worked the night of December 10th and she stated that she noticed the bill was counterfeit because it had the words copy and for motion pictures purposes on it.

Smith was arrested and charged with Forgery 1st degree.
