Delight man arrested for aggravated assault

A Delight man has been arrested for aggravated assault on a family member. It was reported that on August 4th, 2023, 29-year-old Derenzo Preston threatened his uncle Samuel Snowden, who is handicapped and confined to a wheelchair, with a knife up to his head and told Snowden he was a hostage. Snowden then told officers that Preston threatened to stab him and that he even thought about stabbing Snowden the last time Deputies were called.  According to the affidavit, Preston was arrested the weekend before for the same incident. It was also reported that when Snowden warned Preston about calling 911, Preston allegedly took Snowden’s phone to keep him from calling the police.  Officers also reported that Snowden’s sister had arrived and helped Snowden find his phone to call the police. Preston also faces an additional charge of interference with emergency communication in the 1st degree.
